Jason Shimmy
Hello everyone, my name is Jason. I'm an engineer, musician, and family man passionate about technology, music production, and gaming. Originally from Stafford, Virginia, I've carved out my path in the world through dedication, self-learning, and an insatiable curiosity for all my pursuits.
I'm happily married with two wonderful daughters who inspire me every day. We reside in Pittsburgh, PA, and we love this city.
I currently work as a Senior Systems/Software Engineer at the Software Engineering Institute, where I transform complex technical challenges into elegant solutions. Without a traditional college path, I've built my expertise through hands-on experience, online courses, technical conferences, and an unwavering commitment to continuous learning.
Music is my creative outlet. When I'm not coding, I'm in my home studio, recording tracks, experimenting with sound design, and producing original music. My setup combines digital tools and analog gear, allowing me to create unique sonic landscapes.
I'm a passionate gaming enthusiast who has a deep appreciation for the evolution of gaming. From the classic systems of the past to the modern marvels like the PS5 and XBOX Series X, I'm always eager to explore the rich history of gaming.
I have a particularly strong connection with game systems released during my childhood, spanning from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Sega Dreamcast.
Technology isn't just a part of my job; it's an integral part of my lifestyle. I'm always exploring new programming languages, working on open-source projects, modifying hardware, and staying updated on cutting-edge tech innovations.
You read that right! You are actually on one of my passion projects right now.
This is the home base for everything that I do. Thanks for joining me!
Helix Help is a pursuit of mine that blends my passion for tech and music. It is the unofficial guide for the Line 6 HX family of products, such as the vastly popular HX Stomp.
It receives approximately a million visits annually from people worldwide. Its enduring popularity still amazes me, as I initially created it solely for my own reference.
This is a passion project of mine inspired by my love of rock music. It is best known for the song "Believe", which was used by the Pittsburgh Pirates during AT&T SportsNet broadcasts of the 2023 MLB season.

My journey demonstrates that passion and persistence are more significant factors in career success than traditional credentials. Through self-directed learning, long nights of troubleshooting, building real-world projects, and networking with fellow enthusiasts, I've successfully built my career across various pursuits.
Being a husband and father is at the heart of everything I do and is the best part of me. My two daughters bring joy and inspiration into my life, motivating me to be the best version of myself. My wife is my best friend and the best thing that ever happened to me.
Whether we're reading stories, playing video games, or creating music as a family, every moment is a cherished memory.
